Marine Atlantic and Nova Star Cruises cancel crossings

Environment Canada has issued a marine weather warning for the Maritimes and the high winds are disrupting ferry service across Nova Scotia.

Environment Canada has issued a marine weather warning for the Maritimes and the highwinds are disrupting ferry service across Nova Scotia.

Marine Atlantic and Nova Star Cruises have both cancelled scheduledcrossings.

Marine Atlantic cancelled ferries that were set to departNorth Sydney and Port aux Basque, N.L. at 11:45 a.m. The companyalso cancelled the Atlantic Vision and Highlander'scrossingsthat would've leftlast night at 11:45 p.m.

Nova Star Cruises says theferry that was scheduled to arrive in Yarmouth this morning won't be able to enter the port until this afternoon, with its arrival delayed until 4 p.m. AT.It says winds are gusting to 112 km/h.

The company has cancelled its daytime crossing leaving Yarmouth and the trip scheduled to return from Portland this evening.

Nova Star says ithopes service can resume Sunday.

Northumberland Ferries has also suspendedcrossings between Caribou, N.S. and Wood Islands, P.E.I. until further notice.

There are also traffic restrictions in effect on the Confederation Bridge.

Environment Canada has issues marine weather warnings for the region. In the Northumberland Strait, theCabot Strait and Nova Scotia's Eastern Shore,gale force winds between 63and 87km/hare expected.

There's a strong wind warning in effect for the southwestern shore and the Bay of Fundy. Environment Canada is calling for winds between 37 and 61km/h.
