RCMP say the victim of a fatal fire Monday in Nova Scotia's Hants County was a 27-year-old woman.

The woman's body was discovered inside a garage in South Rawdon after firefighters were called to the scene shortly after 9 a.m.

Two young children escaped unharmed from an adjacent house.

Cpl. Jennifer Clarke would not say whether the victim was the mother of the children.

"It's an awful thing to have happen in any community, but in a small communityI think people are probably that much more close-knit," said Clarke.

"I can assure them we are completing a thorough investigation."

Clarke said the examination of the fire scene is complete but the RCMP's major crimes unit continues to investigate the woman's death.

Anyone with information should contact RCMP or Crimestoppers.
