Halifax house fire forces 8 people from their apartments

Eight people have been forced out of their apartments after a fire at a two-storey housein south-end Halifax early Thursday morning, according to a news release from the Red Cross.

Eight people wereforced out of their apartments early Thursday after a fire at a two-storey house in south-end Halifax, according to a news release from the Red Cross.

The fire broke out just after midnight atthe Brussels Street house, whichcontains several units.

There wereno reported injuries. The cause of the fire was not known.

Phil Thorburn, district chief with Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency, said the fire appeared to be suspicious in natureand the case was turned over to police.

Halifax Regional Police could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Red Cross said it helped one man find emergency lodgings, while the other seven tenants were stayingwith family or friends. They have beenoffered help from the Red Cross, depending on if and when they're allowed to return home.
