1 dead after house fire on Christmas Day in Pictou

A 74-year-old man has been found dead aftera home on Marine Street in Pictou, N.S., wasseverely damaged in a fire on Christmas morning.

A 74-year-old man was found dead aftera home on Marine Street in Pictou, N.S., wasseverely damaged in a fire on Christmas morning.

The Pictou Fire Department and RCMPwere called to the fire just after 1 a.m. local time to find the house engulfed in flames, according to a news release.

Police say due to the severity of the fire and unsafe conditions from the damage, the victim was found inside the home onSunday. No one else was inside the residence at the time.

Pictoufire ChiefPaul Janessaid several departments helped battle the blaze, includingAbercrombie Volunteer Fire Department,Caribou District Fire Department andNew Glasgow Fire Department.

The fire is not believed to be suspicious, however the investigation is ongoing.
