Heavy downpours, thunderstorms ending Wednesday evening in N.S.

Periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms will endWednesday evening, following an active day across the province.

Many areas across southern and eastern Nova Scotia saw heavy downpours and thunderstorms on Wednesday.

Cape Breton was especially hit hard with many areas of Victoria County picking up more than 50 millimetresof rain in just a few hours.

Baddeck recorded 76 millimetresin twohours, Wreck Cove received 61 millimetres in 90 minutes and Ingonish recorded 55 millimetresin just one hour.

While the downpours and storms will not be nearly as widespread, the risk will be there again on Thursday afternoon and evening, so keep your eye on the sky.

Following an isolated chance for showers on Friday afternoon, the weekend is looking nice across Nova Scotia with sun and cloud and temperaturesin the mid 20s.

Beyond that, we'll need to keep a close eye on the track of Hurricane Ernesto, which looks set to move into Atlantic Canadian waters early next week.
