Halifax man faces sex charges related to alleged assaults dating back to 1988

Police have charged a 53-year-old Halifax man with sex offences that occurred between 1988 and 1991 in Halifax, Dartmouth and East Petpeswick.

Police have charged a Halifax man with sex offences alleged to haveoccurred between 1988 and 1991 in Halifax, Dartmouth and East Petpeswick.

Donald Paul Henderson, 53, facesone count of sexual assault, twocounts of being in a position of trust and touching a young person for a sexual purpose and two counts of being in a position of trust and inviting a young person to touch for a sexual purpose.

Halifax Regional Police said they received multiple complaints this past spring and summerrelated to the alleged offences.

Police said the suspect and thealleged victims were known to each other butthey would not say how many complainants have come forward.

In a statement Thursday, the Maskwa Aquatic Club in Halifax said it was aware that criminal charges had been laid against a former employee who has not worked at the club since around1997.

"Maskwa is taking these accusations seriously and will fulfil our legal obligations to co-operate with authorities during the course of the investigation," said Debbie Spencer, commodore for the club on Kearney Lake.

Henderson has been released by policeand muststay away from any placefrequentedby children, notify police of a change of address or occupation, remain away from children under 16 except when in the company of their parent and not communicatewith three individuals.

Henderson is scheduled to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on Nov.6.
