Police officer's lost firearm magazine, ammunition found

Halifax police say a firearm magazine lost by a police officer on Friday night has been found.

Halifax police say a firearm magazine containing ammunition that was lost by anofficer on Friday night has been found.

According to a news release, the magazine became detached from the officer's belt while the officer was on duty.

The magazine was found on Monday afternoon in the area where it was believed to have been lost.

It's illegal for members of the public to possess police-issued equipment, police said. There are also penalties for unlawful possession of police articles.

In an email to CBC News after the items went missing, a police spokesperson said they posed "some risk" to the public.

Police did not sayspecifically where or when the items were lost, only that they were believed to be at an outdoor location within the force's jurisdiction.
