About 50 people attended a rally in Halifax Saturday asking politiciansto take in more refugees, particularly those fleeing the crisis in Syria.

The rally walked through the downtown and ended outside City Hall where people gathered.

Organizers asked the people attending to wear white to symbolize their support.

Tom Survaes took part in the rally. He thinks refugees would help the Canadian economy.

"Canada is a big country. We need to re-launch our economy. What better way to do than to invite people who have shown they have the courage to start from scratch?" saidSurvaes.

The gathering was part of the Refugees Welcome national movement.
