Hantsport, N.S., can't pay $15K bill to open pool.

A pool in Hantsport, N.S., wont open this year because the town cant afford the $15,000 operating cost.

The Hantsport Memorial Community Centre Pool has been open for almost 60 years. Mayor Rob Zwicker said it needs upgrades, but the town cant afford that this year either.

"We decided that with the combination of the aging infrastructure and the declining usage that we would not open the pool this year, he said Tuesday.

Its the latest setback for the town. Last month, its council voted to dissolve the town. $1 million had to be cut from the budget this year.

The town once hadits own swim and dive teams.

Hantsport will remain a town until next spring. Its deciding which municipality to join.
