Nova Scotia's minister of municipal affairs has appointed a veteran chartered accountant to oversee the merger of the town of Hantsport with a neighbouring municipality.

Hanstport became 3rd town in Nova Scotia to dissolve within 5 weeks

Nova Scotia's minister of municipal affairs has appointed a veteran chartered accountant to oversee the merger of the town of Hantsport with a neighbouring municipality.

Mark Furey says John Morash will oversee the process and guide discussions for the town to become part of the Municipality of West Hants or the Municipality of the County of Kings.

The merger is expected to take effect April 15.

Hantsport is among several Nova Scotia towns that have voted to dissolve their municipal status due to financial difficulties over the past year.

It was the thirdtown to dissolvein five weeksafter Bridgetown and Springhill.

Hantsport Mayor Rob Zwicker says he's confident Morash's experience guiding a similar merger in the past will assist his town.

Morash co-ordinated the amalgamation of Queens County with the Town of Liverpool from 1995 to 1996.
