Halifax police say death of man found in Clayton Park a homicide

Police were called to a Clayton Park building on Thursday night and later arrested a seriously injured 20-year-old man near a bus stop in the neighbourhood.

A manin his late 50s found dead in the hallway of an apartment building in Clayton Park was a victim of homicide, Halifax police said Friday evening.

Halifax Regional Police were called to 10 Harlington Cres. at 10:13 p.m. on Thursday anddiscovered the body. Asecond man was found on a nearby street with serious injuries and taken into custody.

The dead man's identity has not been disclosed and police said it is being held back until family have been notified.

Officers removed his body from the apartment building early Friday morning. The medical examiner did an autopsy later in the day and police said they declared the death a homicide based on the findings.

The 20-year-old man arrestednear a Halifax Transit bus stop on Willet Street soon after the man's body was discovered is still in police custody atthe Queen Elizabeth II Health Sciences Centre where he was taken for treatment of serious injuries.

Police said they believe the victim and the suspect knew each other.

Anyone with information, especially anyone who may have seen the 20-year-old leaving the building, is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers, or submit a tiponline.
