Keltic Lodge, Highlands Links to get 'ambitious' $2M makeover

Cape Breton's original golf links and resort will get a $2 million upgrade this winter, saysthe operation's new manager.

Parks Canada awardedGolfNorththe management and operation lease for Keltic Lodge and Spaand the Highlands Links in the Cape Breton Highlands National Park earlier this year.

In a news release, GolfNorthsaid it plans an "ambitious" renovationto re-establish the resort hotel and golf courseas "the number 1 destinationfor food, golf, scenery and hospitalityin Canada."

It plansto spend $2 millionrenovatingguestrooms and public areas,and upgradingfacilities.It also plans to continue improvements to the StanleyThompson-designed golf links.

"Our desire is to radically improve the Keltic experience for visitorswhile honouring the history of this iconic landmark," the company says.

GolfNorth said the renovation is in recognition of the resort's 75th anniversary.The work is expected to be finished in time for the opening of the 2016 golf season.
