Severe thunderstorms affect parts of N.S. for second straight day

An alert issued at 3 p.m. Sunday warned of rainfall rates ofover 25 millimetres per hour or higher and total rainfall amounts of up to 70 millimetres.

Environment Canadaissued severe thunderstorm warnings forseveral counties in Nova Scotia on Sunday.

As of 7p.m., warnings were in place forColchester and Pictou counties as well as parts of Inverness County.Acluster of thunderstorms was moving eastward across the province, the agency said.

Rainfall rates ofover 25 millimetres per hour or higher and total rainfall amounts of up to 70 millimetreswere possible, the warnings said.

The agency said heavy downpours can trigger flash floods and water pooling on roads. It warned people to be cautious when driving through water on the roads.

It said strong wind gusts and hail were also possible..

An emergency alert was issued for Kings County, N.S., for flash floods and severe thunderstorms at 3 p.m. Environment Canada's warning for Kings County was lifted later in the afternoon.
