Kristin Johnston, Halifax yoga instructor, remembered at memorial

A well-known yoga instructor found dead in her home two weeks ago was remembered by friends Saturday in Halifax as "an amazing leader and a strong role model for other women."

Halifax police have released little information about the investigation into Johnston's homicide

Friends of Kirstin Johnston,who was found dead in her home two weeks ago, gatheredtoday to remember her and celebrate the community she created in Halifax.

Johnston, 32, who had owned andoperatedBikramHalifax,died onOceanview Drive in PurcellsCove on March 26. Police have ruled her death a homicide.

RebekahHiggssays she remembers her friend and instructor as fearless and independent.

"She was an amazing leader and a strong role model for other women. She had strong convictions and was very passionate about what she believed in. She was full of life and energy and beauty," she said.

About 100 people attended a public memorial held Saturday afternoon at theShambhalaSchool's gymnasium.

Scott Munn, whohelped organized the service, says friends wanted to offer her close circle a place to celebrate Johnston's life,but also create a space for people who may have been touched by Johnston throughher studio and the widercommunity.

He says everyone was welcome to drop by, tosharememories and favourite stories.

Adored by many

Ryan Cox, who spoke at the memorial, said Johnston was a"master of wit and sarcasm" who was adored by many.

"It's always surprising to me how many different peoplefrom so many different circles considered her a very, very close friend," he said. "She seemed limitless in her ability to connect with people and she'll be admired for that for a very long time," he said.

Johnston's family held a funeral in Montreal earlier this month.

Police have released little information about the investigation into thehomicide.

On Saturday, a spokeswoman said they say they have yet to speak to a person of interest, who was initially arrested at Johnston's home, because he remains in hospital.

They haven't released any information about his condition but say they're not looking for anyone else in connection with the case.

Kristin Johnston wasn't often far from her dog Charley. Her family has request instead of flowers, people consider a donation to the Montreal Gazette Christmas Fund, Animatch, or the SPCA. (Facebook)
