MacRae drops bail application

Jason Wayne MacRae, accused of killing his wife, Paula Gallant, abandoned his attempt Thursday to be released on bail before histrial.

The bail application was withdrawn after a private meeting involving MacRae's lawyer, the Crown attorney and Nova Scotia Supreme Court Justice Felix Cacchione.

MacRae, 37, was charged in August with first-degree murder in the death of his wife five years ago.

In court, Cacchione said that he's dismayed to see more information about this case in newspapers than he has seen in legal documents.

He warned whoever is distributing this information to stop, so the case will not be jeopardized.

Gallant, 36,was found dead in the trunk of her car in the parking lot of her school in late December 2005. She was a teacher at Beechville-Lakeside-Timberlea Elementary School.

A native of Glace Bay, Gallant died a week before the first birthday of the couple's daughter.
