MacRae waives right to preliminary hearing

There will be no preliminary hearing for Jason Wayne MacRae, the Nova Scotia man accused of killing his wife, Paula Gallant.

MacRae's lawyer waved his client's right to a preliminary hearing in Halifax provincial court on Friday. MacRae was not present.

MacRae, 37,has also chosen to be tried by a judge and jury, his lawyer said.

The Timberlea man was charged in August with first-degree murder in the death of his wife five years ago. Gallant, 36, was found dead in the trunk of her car in the parking lot of her school in late December 2005. She was a teacher at Beechville-Lakeside-Timberlea Elementary School.

A native of Glace Bay, Gallant died a week before the first birthday of the couple's daughter.

Macrae is due back in court on Jan. 27 for anarraignment.
