Man nabbed after sleeping woman watched

Police say they caught a man who snuck into a sleeping woman's apartment in south-end Halifax early Thursday.

Police say they caught a man who snuck into a sleeping woman's apartment in south-end Halifax early Thursday.

A woman told Halifax Regional Police she woke up to find a man in her South Streetflat shortly after 5 a.m. She said she confronted the intruderand he left.

Police saidwith the help of a witness, theyarrested a man matching the description of the suspect a short time later.

There have been several similar incidents in the area in the last few years, but police won't say if this is the so-called sleep watcher.

"As in all cases, investigators will examine if there is a connection to other similar incidents but at this time there is no evidence to connect this with any other cases," police said in a statement.

Const. Brian Palmeter told CBC News that the intruder didn't touch the woman.

The man is in custody. Police said no decision has been made about possible charges.

Police said it appears the man got in through an unlocked door.

CBC reporter Elizabeth Chiu saidall of the police activity was focused on theground floor and the main level of the building.
