Freezing rain warning in place for northern Cape Breton

Environment Canada has a freezing rain warning in place for northern Cape Breton and a Les Sutes wind warning for Inverness County.

Environment Canada has a freezing rain warning in place for northern Cape Breton, plus aLes Sutes wind warning for Inverness County on Friday.

The warnings are in place until later Friday evening.

Earlier in the day, an early spring stormbroughta messy mix of snow, ice pellets, freezing rain, rain andthunder to parts of Nova Scotia.

Schools in Cape Breton-Victoria and the Strait area were closed Friday due to the weather.

"Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots will become icy, slippery and hazardous. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Utility outages may occur," Environment Canada said in a statement.

Wind gusts could reach up to 140 km/h in Inverness County-Mabou North.
