Nova Scotia winter back with a vengeance with 2nd storm in 2 days

A winter storm working its way through Nova Scotia has left more than 10,000 Nova Scotia Power customers without electricity and forced the cancellation of severalflights at the Halifax airport.

Environment Canada is warning that some areas of the province could get between 15 and 20 centimetres of snow beginningFriday evening into Saturday morning.

The weather system comes just one day after a messy mix of snow, rain and wind led to treacherous road conditions and knocked out power to more than 30,000 customers.

According to Nova Scotia Power's website, as of10:55 p.m., there were more than165outages affecting about 11,300 customers.

At Halifax Stanfield International Aiport, most remaining flights in and out of Halifax hadbeen delayed or cancelled.

While most of Cape Breton was under freezing rain and wind warnings on Friday, most of those warnings hadpassed.

As of 11 p.m., the only warnings on Cape Breton applied to:

• Inverness County Mabou and north Wind and Les Suteswind warnings.
• Victoria County Wind and winter storm warnings.

There are snowfall warnings in the following mainland counties:

• Colchester County.
• Cumberland County.
• Hants County.

Environment Canada has also issued a special weather statement for Digby, Annapolis and Kings counties. The weather agency is calling for 10 centimetres of snow in these areas, and possibly up to 15 centimetres.
