Nova Scotia's Christmas tree gift to Boston has been officiallylit up on the city's common.

The 15-metre white spruce is an annual token of gratitude to theMassachusetts city for its help after the Halifax Explosion in 1917.

Today marks 96 years since the explosion, which killed abouttwo-thousand people and injured hundreds more.

A delegation of Nova Scotians travelled to Boston for lastnight's tree-lighting ceremony.
