Natural gas leak contained in Halifax's north end

A natural gas leak was contained at a construction site on Almon Street in Halifaxs north end on Friday.

Leak led to road closures to isolate the area

A natural gas leak was contained at a construction site on Almon Street inHalifax's north endon Friday.

Halifax Regional Fire and Emergency got a call just before 1 p.m. local timeand went to the site to evacuate people.

The leak was contained and fire crews are working with the gas company to assess the situation and clear nearbybuildings to make sure there is no gas inside, said a spokesperson for the fire service.

Fire crews closed Robie Street from North Street to Young Street and Almon Street from Windsor Street to Robie Streetto isolate the scene as aprecautionary measure.

Halifax Regional Municipality sent out an alert advisingpeople in the area to close their windows and stay away from the scene.

The scene will be safe when fire crews have departed, the alert said.
