Accused in Nicole Campbell murder to undergo psychiatric exam

A man accused of murdering Nicole Campbell, a New Glasgow mother of three, will undergo a psychiatric exam to determine if he is fit to stand trial.

A 36-year-old New Glasgow man will undergo a psychiatricexamination at the East Coast Forensic Hospital to determine if he isfit to stand trial and whether he can be held criminally responsiblefor allegedly killing 33-year-old Nicole Campbell last week.

Robert Jason MacKenzie,dressed in a grey track suit, appeared at an emotional hearing in a New Glasgow provincialcourtroom this morning. A judge ordered that he remain in custody.

As MacKenzie was led out of the courtroom by a sheriff, a male relative ofthe victim shouted "rot in hell, you piece of shit."

Aunts and sisters of the victim sobbed quietly during the brief appearance.

MacKenzie appeared calm and alert.

He is accused ofsecond-degree murder in the death of Campbell last Wednesday. The victim was found by policein a Temperance Street apartment following a 911 call.

She wasthe mother of three children.

MacKenzie is scheduled to return to court onFeb.4.
