The legal battle over theSt. Patrick's-Alexandra School building is officially over as Halifax regional council voted Tuesday against filing an appeal on the case.

In September,aNova Scotia Supreme Court judgesided with three groups trying to block the sale of the St. Patrick's Alexandra School building to a private developer.

The groups included the MicMac Native Friendship Centre, the North End Community Health Association and the Richard Preston Centre for Excellence. They argued the city didn't follow its own rules when it offered the facility to Jono Developments Ltd.first. The court agreed.

The council also voted Tuesday to return the developer's deposit.

The process to dispose of the former school will begin again. Council said the new process will include public consultation.

The groups that initially appealed the decision said last month they are still interested in the space.
