An inmate at the Nova Institution for Women in Truro has died according to Correctional Service Canada.

Corrections Canada says Veronica Park died in a Truro hospital on Friday. The circumstances surrounding her death have not been released.

Park, from Newfoundland and Labrador, was 38 years old and officials say she was serving a sentence of a little under three years for robbery and breach of a recognizance.

She pleaded guilty in May 2014 to mugging an 82-year-old woman.

The victim suffered a broken bone when Park pushed her to the ground and stole her purse.
