Nova Scotia achieves milestone level of wind power generation

For one hour early Wednesday morning, Nova Scotia Power says 50 per cent of the province's electricity came from wind.

HALIFAX Nova Scotia Power says a new record has been set forwind power generation in the province.

For one hour early Wednesday morning, the utility says 50 percent of the province's electricity came from wind.

The company acknowledges the new record was achieved during aperiod when demand for electricity is low between 3 and 4 a.m. and that there were high winds at the time.

Nova Scotia Power says the spike in wind generation is creditedto the newly opened South Canoe Wind Farm in the municipality ofChester.

The 34-turbine wind farm is expected to provide enough energy forabout 32,000 homes.

Nova Scotia has legislated that 25 per cent of electricity mustcome from renewable resources in 2015 and 40 per cent by 2020.
