Nova Scotia still wringing out after downpour

The detour on the Bedford Highway has been lifted, according to Halifax Transit, but the Hammonds Plains Road and Bluewater Road are not expected to reopen until Friday at the earliest.

The rain might have stopped in Halifax, but commuters are still dealingwith the fallout of Wednesday's storm.

In the Halifax region:

• Hammonds Plains Road is "quite a significant issue," said HalifaxRegionalPoliceStaff Sgt.LindsayHernden. Police areredirecting inbound traffic atKearneyLake Road and outbound at Gary Martin Road near theBMOcentre.
• Waverley Road between the 1600-2100 block is passable with caution.
• In Dartmouth, there's some flooding at Hawthorne Street and Crichton Avenue. It'spassable with caution.
• Rocky Lake Drive and Quarrystone Drive area is passable with caution.
• At the Fish Hatchery Park in Bedford, an area of the park, including the bandstand and parts of the walkway, are submerged.
• On Union Street in Bedford, there is flooding in the parking lots of the BedfordPlace Mall and Superstore.
• The trail system and lower parking lots at Moirs Mill in Bedford are flooded.

A few cars are up to their windows in water in the centre of the flooded area on Hammonds Plains, reports the CBC's Craig Paisley.

L'nu Sipuk Kina'muokuom School in Indian Brook is closed due to flooding.

The Annapolis Valley Regional School Board says drivers are"usingdiscretion" on side roads due to localized flooding.

The storm is slowly leaving the Maritimes.

Environment Canada says as of 2 a.m. Thursday parts of central and western Nova Scotia had received more than 100 millimetres of rain.
