Nova Scotia to get blasted by high winds and heavy rain

Environment Canada has issued rainfall warnings and wind warnings for much of the province.

Some areas could see 35 mm of rain by Monday morning

Heavy rain and high windsare expected to hit Nova Scotia tonight and into Monday.

Environment Canada has issued rainfall and wind warnings for much of the province.

In Halifax Sunday is expected to becalm with cloudyskies anda slight chance of flurries with a high of 3 C.

The rain is forecasted tostart after midnight, with about 15 millimetres expected.

Winds will also start to pick up gusting from the southeast at 90 km/h before tomorrow morning.

On Monday morning there will be heavy rain at times,another 10 to 20 millimetres could come down.

Ferry service cancelled

The rain will end after the morning and there will be a mix of sun and cloud.Winds will also die down to about 50 km/h Monday morning. The temperature will drop from a high of 10 C to 4 C in the afternoon.

Much the same weather is expected across the province, Cape Breton will be hit with the strongest winds though.

Environment Canada says winds will gust up to 130 km/h from Margaree Harbour to Bay St. Lawrence Monday morning and into the afternoon.

Those highwinds have led Marine Atlantic to cancel tonight'sferry crossings to and from Newfoundland. The ferry service is also warning passengersthat it mayhave to cancel its crossings scheduled for Monday morning as well.

Environment Canada says another system is expected to hit Atlantic Canada around the middle of the week, bringing rain, heavy snow and strong winds.
