So far, there's been light rain in the province with totals in the range of trace amounts to 5 millimetres by 2 p.m. this afternoon. But, more wet weather is ahead for tonight and Thursday.

Thursday night and Friday morning will see rain either mix with snow or turn into wet snow

There's beenlight rain in the province with totals in the range of trace amountsto fivemillimetres by 2 p.m. this afternoon. Butmore wet weather is ahead for tonight and Thursday.

Thursday night and Friday morning will see the back edge of the rain eithermix with snow or turn to wet snow.

Fog patches will also accompany the rain, so visibility may be down on some stretches of the roads. Winds will remain steady out of the south and southwest and keep temperatures in the range of 7 C to 10 C tonight.

The rain will ease to off-and-on showers along with fog patches Thursday morning. Conditions will carry on that way through the afternoon before another band of rain arrives for Thursday evening.

Additional rainfall amounts of 20 to 30 millimetresare expected. Temperatures will be at their warmest in the morning 7 C to 10 C and thenbegin to fall in the afternoon.

There will be rain for Thursday evening, but as temperatures continue to fall it will begin to mix with snow or turn to wet snow near and after midnight. Falling wet snow can be expected for the northeast of the mainland and Cape Breton for the commute on Friday morning. The rest of the province will see wet flurries drift through.

For most of Nova Scotia, slushy accumulations are expected to range from trace amounts up to fivecentimetres. Watch for slippery spots on the road.

Two areas that could see more significant accumulation include Cumberland and Colchestercounties along with the higher elevations in Richmond and Inverness Counties of Cape Breton.I would caution that amounts of fiveto 10 centimetres look likely for that area. That meansthe Cobequid Pass and other roads will have both reduced traction and visibility.

Watch for that Thursday night and Friday morning.

If you are driving into central New Brunswick or western Prince Edward IslandThursday night or Friday morning, be aware that you are likely to run into accumulations of 10 centimetres or more.

Watch for some slushy accumulations for the Friday morning commute, especially in areas of Cape Breton and Cumberland/Colchester counties. (Kalin Mitchell/CBC)
