Parkland Construction charged after worker Alan Fraser's death

The Occupational Health and Safety division of Nova Scotia's Department of Labour has laid six charges against a Halifax construction company in connection with the death of an employee.

The Occupational Health and Safety division of Nova Scotia's Department of Labour has laid six charges against a Halifax construction company in connection with the death of an employee.

Parkland Construction Inc. has been charged with providing a lack of fall protection, fall protection training and a safe work plan. They were also charged with failure to ensure a chute is used to lower garbage.

A supervisor with the company has been charged with failing to take every precaution to protect an employee's health and failing to provide fall protection.

If convicted, the company could face a fine of $500,000. The supervisor could go to jail for up to two years.

Fraser, of Lower Sackville, died after falling six storeys at a construction site on Greenpark Close in 2013.

The provincial Department of Labour launched an investigation soon after.
