Peggys Cove recovery for Ontario man suspended due to waves

The search for a missing Ontario man who was swept into the waters near Peggys Cove earlier this week is being suspended until Sunday because it's being hampered by waves, said RCMP.

The search for a missing Ontario man who was swept into the waters near Peggys Cove earlier this week is being suspended until Sunday because it's being hampered by waves, said RCMP.

On Wednesday, a 25-year-old man was standing on the rocks when a large wave knocked him into the sea. Emergency crews were called to the scene but were unable to find him. The search is now considered a recovery operation.

Const. Darryn Sampson said the swells made it hard for their boat's radar to read what's on the ocean floor. They're scanning the area they believe the body might be.

"Right now it's extremely dangerous for diving," Sampson said.

Nova Scotia RCMP said the operation is suspended until Sunday, when the forecast looks better. Conditions on Thursday were also too dangerous for RCMP divers to search.

The man's name has not been released.

RCMP say the search will focus on the water. There were no aerial or ground searches on Friday.

The underwater recoveryteam consists of six people from across the province. They use a zodiac and a stabilizing platform in their search.
