Police investigating after man injured in Dartmouth shooting

Police are investigating a shooting early Monday in Dartmouth that wounded a man who sought treatment in hospital.

Officers responded after someone reported gunshots in the Farrell Street area around 3:30 a.m., according to a news release.

They said the man arrived at the hospital shortlyafter.

On Monday morning, police closed off a section of Farrell Streetbetween Catherine Street and Windmill Road.

The injured man is expected to survive.

9 shootings in Dartmouth since May

Halifax Regional Police have responded to 12 shootings since May 1,nine in areas of Dartmouth within the force's jurisdiction,said Const. John MacLeod.

In one case, a 22-year-old man was killed after an altercation at Alderney Landing.

MacLeod said police are looking intowhether any of the shootings are connected.

"At this point we don't have information to suggest that they're linked, but we are exploring all our investigative avenues, including commonalities," he said.

"We would hope that if people has any information on criminal activity,particularly guns and drugs, they would contact us."
