Police are appealing to the public for information after a what might have been a drive-by shooting near Halifax Tuesday night left one man dead and wounded another.

Wayne Nicholas Marriott, 21, died on arrival at hospital, said RCMP Const. Joe Taplin of the Halifax District Detachment.

Marriott was in a car near his home in Beechville, west of Halifax, with another man, when police say someone shot at the car.

Witnesses say they heard seven or eight gunshots, but police are not saying how many shots were fired.

The other man was wounded and has been released from hospital. Taplin said police have questioned him, but don't consider him a suspect.

Police are looking for two suspects, Taplin said, possibly a driver and a shooter.

Police have seized three vehicles in Beechville that they think might have been involved. Two were on Sheppards Run near the murder scene, while the third was on St. Margaret's Bay Road. The two on Sheppards Run were the victim's car and a parked car. The third, a gray vehicle, is stolen and may have been involved in the shooting.

Police are asking the public to call the RCMP if they saw a gray large vehicle on Sheppards Run the night of the murder.

Taplin said police have also recovered a weapon.
