Ryan White murder tipster receives $150K through unsolved crime reward program

For only the second time, the maximum reward of $150,000 has been paid out under Nova Scotia's Reward for Major Unsolved Crime Program.

In July 2013, a tip received through the program helped police arrest and charge Kale Gabriel with the murder of Ryan White.

Last month, Gabriel was sentenced to life in prison for the second degree murder of White in July of 2010.

The program has been in place since 2006 and there are currently 81 unsolved cases that qualify for the reward.

In order to get the reward, the information given must lead to an arrest and conviction. Those who offer up the tips must provide their name and contact information. They may also be called to testify in court.

The amount paid out depends on the importance of the information received.

The only other case that resulted in the maximum being paid out was the murder of Melissa Peacock in 2011.

Information received through the program led to the arrests of brothers Dustin and Joshua Preeper, who are currently serving life sentences.
