Halifax thunderstorm knocks out power, lights up social media

Residents in the Halifax took to social media Saturday night to share their photos and videos after a powerful thunderstorm rolled through the area.

Power outages numbered in the tens of thousands in the province

Residents inHalifax took to social media Saturday night to share their photos and videos after a powerful thunderstorm rolled through the area.

As spectacular as it may have been to look at, at one point it caused a number of power outages.

Over 20,000 Nova Scotia Power customers were in the dark at one point. By Sunday afternoon, most outages had been restored.

But for most folks, it was a great opportunity to watch a Mother Nature sound and light show, as thunder rumbled and lightning crackled through the skies.

This was the second stunning thunder and lightning storm to hit Halifax this month.

Earlier this July, a thunderstorm and sudden downpour briefly sent Lauryn Hill off the stage at the Halifax Jazz Festival.
