Province to increase flood aid in Truro

The Nova Scotia government has announced $2.6 million in aid for people who had their homes or businesses flooded in and around Truro last month.

The Nova Scotia government has announced $2.6 million in aid for people who had their homes or businesses floodedin and around Trurolast month.

The Dextergovernment is also increasing the cap on disaster financial assistancefor homeowners and small business operators from $50,000 to $80,000.

The cap on disaster financial assistancefor non-profit organizations will rise to $200,000.

Many homes in central Nova Scotiawhich were flooded after nearly 75 millimetres of rainin one daycaused two rivers to overflow in the Truro area are not covered for flooding in their insurance policies.

The increased cap will stay in effect for future disaster assistance claims.

The NDP government said it will apply to the federal government to cover a portion under the Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangement.
