Most N.S. schools to reopen Wednesday

Most public schools in Nova Scotia will reopen on Wednesday.

"Officials have assessed all schools, buildings and properties and those that are able to resume classes will open tomorrow," a press release from the Education Department said.

The release said the school districts and francophone schools run by theConseil scolaire acadien provincial would communicate directly to parents whether any of their facilities will not open.

The following school districts have specified via their website or social media accounts which schools will be closed.

Conseilscolaire acadien provincial (CSAP)

All CSAP schools and offices will be open on Wednesday with exception to the following:

  • cole Mer et Monde, Halifax peninsula
  • cole Pubnico-Ouest, Pubnico

Halifax

The Halifax Regional Centre for Education said it has inspected all 134 of its schools and determined they will be open with the exception of twothat do not have power yet:

  • Atlantic View Elementary, Lawrencetown
  • O'Connell Drive Elementary, Porters Lake

In a news release, Halifax school officials said there will be work continuing at some school sites to clear debris and repair hurricane damage. They also warnedthere could be some delays with transportationdue to the hurricane damage in the areas surrounding schools.

Annapolis Valley

School officials said via Twitter they will announce at 6 a.m. Wednesday which schools do not have power and will not be opened.

"Please note bus drivers will use discretion on roads affected by debris or downed powerlines, and school food services may be limited," the tweet said.

Cape Breton-Victoria

School officials tweeted that "those schools that are safe to welcome students and staff will be open" but did not provide any further details.

Chignecto-Central

All schools have power and are open, except forAdvocate District whichis still currently experiencing a power outage and may be delayed in opening.

The school district tweeted that it will provide an update on when Advocate District will open at 6:30 a.m.

South Shore

Most schoolswill reopen, except for the following that will remain closed due topower outages:

  • New Germany Rural High School
  • New Ross Consolidated School

School officials will provide an update on their website and on local radio after 6 a.m. Wednesday. For all schools that are open, morning bus pickup will be at the regular time for students.

Food services such as school cafeterias andbreakfast programs may not be available, so students are asked to bring their own food.

Strait

All schools willbe open tomorrow, with the exception of four that are still being monitored:

  • Bayview Education Centre and Felix Marchand Education Centre still do not have power as of Tuesday afternoon
  • Dalbrae Academy and Whycocomagh Education Centre have power, but no water as of Tuesday afternoon

School officials will adviseWednesdaymorningaround6:30 a.m. on the district's websiteand on local radio whether services have been restored to those four schools and whether classes can go ahead.

They also advise that cafeteria service will only be available at the following schools:

  • Antigonish Education Centre
  • Chedabucto Education Centre/Guysborough Academy
  • Dr. J.H. Gillis Regional High School
  • Fanning Education Centre/Canso Academy
  • Richmond Education Centre/Academy
  • SAERC
  • St. Andrew Junior School
  • Tamarac Education Centre
  • Whycocomagh Education Centre

Tri-County

Most Tri-County schools will be open, with some exceptions of facilities that still don't have power. School officials tweetedthey will continue to assess those schools this evening and will provide updates at their website.
