Questions abound after Halifax wildfires

Investigators are asking for the public's help in finding the cause of last week's wildfire in Halifax.

Investigators are asking for the public's help in finding the cause of last week's wildfire in Halifax.

The fire broke out Thursday afternoon near Herring Cove Road and spread east to Purcells Cove Road, destroying eight homes and damaging 10 others.

An estimated 1,200 people were forced to flee. There were no reports of major injuries.

Halifax fire Chief Mike Larue said it's not known if the fire is a case of arson or if it was accidental, or even exactly where it started.

"I'm not sure we have a point of origin at this time," Larue said. "We know the vicinity of where the fire started. It's somewhere in around Roachs Pond or McIntosh Run."

Larue said anyone with information should call the Halifax Regional Fire Service: 490-5546.
