Man Tasered by Halifax police after allegedly assaulting officer

A manwas Tasered by Halifax police on Wednesday after heallegedly assaultedan officer during an incident on a busy Halifax street.

Incident happened around 3:35 p.m. AT Wednesday on Quinpool Road

Police say the man assaulted an officer and to carry out the arrest, one of the officers Tasered the man to restrain him. (Name withheld by request)

A manwas Tasered by Halifax police on Wednesday after heallegedly assaultedan officer during an incident on a busy Halifax street.

A news release from Halifax Regional Police saidofficers saw a truckbeing driven in an unsafe manner around 3:35 p.m. AT on the 6200 block of Quinpool Road.

In an email on Thursday, Const. John MacLeod said in attempting to change lanes, the truck collided with a parked car and a moving vehicle.

MacLeod said the drivers of the truck and moving vehicle pulled over to the side of the road.

The officers stopped to assist the motorists and conduct a collision investigation. The male driver of the truck was then issued asummary offence ticket for unsafe lane changing.

Investigators saidthe man confrontedthe officersand when more officers arrived on scene, the man assaulted one of them.

Why police say they arrested the man

Police say in order to carry out the arrest, one of the officers Tasered the man to restrain him.

He was taken into custody and will be facing charges. The man was later released on a promise to appear in court.

A video of the encounter was being shared on social media Wednesday evening. Halifax police say if members of the public haveconcerns related to the conduct of an officer, they can file a complaint with the professional standards branch.
