Railcar workers accept contract offer

Workers at the TrentonWorks railcar plant accepted a new collective agreement Sunday.

TheUnited Steelworkers union said 60 per cent voted in favour of the three-year deal, which includes pension improvements but no wage hikes.

The two sides reached a tentative deal last week afterCentral Nova MP Peter MacKay urged them to return to the negotiating table to avert a strike.

The board of directors at Greenbrier, TrentonWorks' American parent company, will discuss the Trenton plant's future at a meeting next month.Greenbrier has called TrentonWorksits least competitive facility.

About 200 people are working on TrentonWorks' only order.
