RCMP German shepherd puppy Helo dies after surgeries

The 14-week-old puppy recruit died at the Atlantic Veterinary Clinic on P.E.I due to surgery complications, according to an RCMP statement released on Tuesday.

Nova Scotia RCMPhad to say goodbye to one of their own on Monday Helo, one of the police force'snewest German shepherd recruits.

The 14-week-old puppy died at the Atlantic Veterinary College on P.E.I due tocomplications from three surgeries, according to an RCMPstatement released on Tuesday.

Police say Helohad eaten rocks and some rope.

Helowas born on Oct. 4 at the RCMP Police Dog Service Training Centre in Innisfail, Alta.He was being socialized throughthe RCMP'spuppy program in Nova Scotia,alongwithhis brother Hamer.

"Duringhis media debut last month, Helo made a lasting impression as the very vocal puppy, who had plenty so say," the RCMPrelease said.

"Our thoughts are with Helo's imprinter, Const. Tim Reid, who is saddened by the loss."

Hamer will continue with the RCMPpuppy program.
