There was an overwhelming turnout at Remembrance Day ceremonies across Canada, including in Halifax.

The legion says the city held the largest service in Halifax's history at Grand Parade

Ronald Trowsdale, president of the Nova Scotia/Nunavut Command of the Royal Canadian Legion, says the last few weeks have been overwhelming.

People are just so generous and so understanding and commenting on how great this country is of ours, he said.

Across Canada, poppies are being scooped up at a record pace.

The legions have also been swamped with requests from people wanting to lay wreaths. This year they will have their largest number of wreaths at the ceremony in Grand Parade in Halifax.

I would say in the neighbourhood of 40 to 50 at least. The public is invited to lay their own wreaths, of course, after the official wreath laying ceremony is over, he said.

TomMulcair- the leader of the federal Opposition - added his name to the list of participants in this year's ceremony in Halifax.

After the deaths of Cpl. Nathan Cirillo and Warrant Officer Patrice Vincent last month, security is a priority.

In Halifax, police are boosting their numbers at all services.

They will also forgo ceremonial uniforms, instead theyll be wearing their daily uniforms and carrying their weapons.
