The Sackville Sports Stadium will reopen for regular operating hours Tuesday after a fireclosed it Monday afternoon but the poolwill remain closed until further notice.

Patrons of the stadium were cleared out of the building after smoke caused by a small fire on the roof seeped into the building through the ventilation system. No one was hurt and everyone made it out safely.

Lingering smoky odour

Although the stadium's indoor air qualitymeets safety standards, clients may notice a lingering odour. Staff with the Halifax Regional Municipality said those with sensitivities should avoid returning to the building Tuesday.

Staff said they were alerted to the fire around 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Division commander Corey Beals said the building was "fairly smoky" when crews arrived.

Damage to pool area

"Because it's an air handling unit, it extracted a fair amount of smoke on the interior of the building. Right now we have crews working on extracting smoke from the structure," said Beals.

Beals said the fire investigation team spent Tuesday evening at the scene to determine a cause.

All programs and swimming lessons were cancelledMonday followingthe fire.

Tiffany Chase, a spokeswoman for the municipality, said there is some smoke damage inside the building in the pool deck area.
