Taylor Samson's accused killer, William Michael Sandeson, to seek bail

The 22-year-old Dalhousie University student accused of murdering fellow student Taylor Samson in a Halifax apartment is seeking bail and will make a bid next month to get out of jail.

The lawyer for William Michael Sandeson appeared in the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia on Thursday morning to request a date for the bail hearing, which has now been scheduled for Oct. 21 and Oct. 22.

Sandeson, a track athlete who was about to begin medical school classes at Dalhousie, is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Samson, a physics student at the same university.

Dates for a preliminary inquiry are scheduled to be set at a court appearance later this month.

Samson disappeared on Aug. 15 and his remains have never been found. Documents related to a search warrant allege Samson was involved in a marijuana drug deal before his death.

Investigators subsequently searched two properties in Sandeson's hometown of Lower Truro and say they discovered several items of interest. Samson's body has not been found.

Last week, people gathered at a funeral home in Upper Tantallon to remember Samson.
