Sears in North Sydney, Cape Breton, closes its doors

A representative for Sears would not say much, except that the company hopes to set up an agency store in the area soon.

The Sears store in North Sydney, Cape Breton, has closed is doors.

The Commercial Street storeclosed Saturday, and stock from the North Sydney location is being transferred to the Sydney store.

A representative for Sears would not say much, exceptthat the company hopes toset up an agency store in the area soon.

Alicia Richler, aspokesperson for the company, said the North Sydney store is locally owned and said the owner decided to close.

She said Sears is looking for a new owner for a North Sydney operation. For now, people in that area will have to go to Sydney to pick up parcels that's a drive of 30 to 40 minutes.

Sears Canada's annual report released earlier in Marchrevealedit was in no better shape. It lost $339 million in 2014, narrowed from $446 million the previous year.

Same-store sales, a key metric in the retail industry, declined by 8.3 per cent in Canada last year.
