Weekend sports: 6 things going on with Nova Scotia teams

University sports take the lead this weekend with a number of championships to be determined across Canada,many of them involving Nova Scotia teams.

University Cup

University Cup men's hockey championship in Halifax has host team Saint Mary's Huskies play top seed Universit du Qubec Trois-Rivires at 8:00 p.m. tonight. This game will be televised.

Women's hockey

At the Canadian Interuniversity Sport women's hockey championship in Calgary, the Saint Mary's Huskies play Universit de Montral tonight at 10:00 p.m.

CIS basketball

At the CIS men's basketball championships in Vancouver, the Dalhousie University Tigers face Carleton University in a semi-final game on Saturday.

CIS curling

The CIS curling championships get underway on Sunday in Kelowna, B.C. Kristen Clarke, fresh off her gold medal win as part of the Mary Fay team at the World Junior Curling Championships, is skip for the Dalhousie University team.Matthew Manuel will skip the Dalhousie University men's team and Saint Mary's will feature skip Adam Cocks.

Major Junior hockey

This is the final weekend of regular season play in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Tonight, the Saint John Sea Dogs are in Sydney to take on the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. The Halifax Mooseheads, who will miss the playoffs, are in Moncton to take on the Wildcats. Both games start at 7:00 p.m.

Junior A hockey

Maritime Junior A hockey playoffs are underway as teams battle for the Kent Cup. Tonight, the Pictou County Weeks Crushers visit the Valley Jr. A Wildcats. On Saturday, the South Shore Lumberjacks play the Truro Bearcats.
