The HudsonBay Company is closing itsWest End Mall location at the end of April. The company would not say how many people will lose their jobs.

The Dartmouth branch will remain open.

In a written statement, the company said the decision is based on multiple factors.

"We continually evaluate our portfolio of stores, both existing and new retail opportunities, and decisions to open or close locations such as our Halifax store are based on a thorough assessment of a variety of factors including market potential and real estate," the company said in response to questions from CBC News.

"We look forward to continuing to serve our loyal Halifax-area customers from the nearby Mic Mac Mall location in Dartmouth."

The company said it would try to find new positions for the Halifax store's employees where possible.
