Trespassing suspect sent to hospital

ADartmouth man accused oftrespassingon a south-end Halifaxproperty was sent to hospital after a struggle with police.

Halifax police say theyobserved a male acting suspiciously in the area of Birmingham Street at 4:15 a.m. Saturday. They sayhe was on a deckat the backof thehome near a window.

Officers tried to arrest the man, but he was combative, police say. The man was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The incident came just one day after police released a suspect from custody who was accused of breaking into a woman's apartment while she was sleeping.Police said therewas notenough evidence to lay a charge at the time.

Const. Brian Palmeter, spokesman for Halifax RegionalPolice,said it's too early to say if the two incidents are connected, but investigatorswill look into it.

"Given light of the incident the other night, we've notified the other investigators who are looking into the other south-end break-ins and make them aware of this arrest,"Palmeter said on Saturday.

That incident happened on South Street at about 5 a.m.

In the past few years, several women in the area reported waking up to find a stranger watching or touching them.

The 49-year-old suspect in Saturday's caseis expected to be charged with trespass by night and resisting arrest.
