Escaped prisoner caught in Dartmouth

Halifax Regional Police have caught a prisoner facing assault and arson charges after he escaped from custody on Wednesday.

Halifax Regional Police have caught a prisoner facing assault and arson chargesafter he escaped from custody on Wednesday.

The Department of Justice said Thomas Arnold Jones, 48,got free at 9:30 a.m. while being transported to Dartmouth provincial court.

That sparked a large manhunt in the neighbourhood.

Const. Brian Palmeter, a spokesman for the HalifaxRegional Police, said Jones contacted police himself and officers took him into custody at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Marilyn Drive in Dartmouth.

Joneswasto be sentenced on Wednesday on a break and enter charge.He also faces charges of assault, unlawful confinement, arson, uttering threats and breach of conditions.
