Strait Area Transit has now extended its service into Victoria County.

The Port Hawkesbury-based co-operative started a Baddeck route last month. But the transit system will hold an official launch date this Wednesday to advertisethe new route and bus.

General manager and supervising driver, Dwayne MacDonald saidthe bus service is used mostly by people coming and going to the two Nova Scotia Community College campuses.

"Now there are students from Waycobah heading to the NSCC in Wagmatcook," MacDonaldsaid. "Actually we took our first one today from NSCC to Port Hawkesbury back to Baddeck."

Along with passengers, the bus also transports parcels. That'sproving timely for the publisher of the Victoria Standard newspaper.

Jim Morrow can now get his biweekly paper delivered to Baddeck from the printer in New Glasgow.

"It saves a little fuel and rubber for us," he said.

Morrow had to drive 40kilometres to Whycocomagh to pick up his papers after Maritime Bus lost its agent in Baddeck.

He is very happy not to have to make the drive.

"This will be our third issue coming outtomorrow, we'll be picking them up in Baddeck rather than in Whycocomagh."
