Taylor Samson, 22, was last seen on Saturday night after he left his home in the city's south end to go for a walk. His family says it's not like him to just drop off the map.

The disappearance of a Halifax university student on the weekend has police and his family baffled.

Taylor Samson, 22, was last seen on Saturday night after he left his home in the city's south end to go for a walk. His family says it's not like Samson a physics student at Dalhousie University starting his fifth year of study to drop off the map.

"I'm really concerned about his disappearance," said Connor Samson, Taylor's brother. "It's not like him to disappear like that out of thin air."

Samson's family and friends travelled to Halifax from their hometown of Amherst as soon as they heard he was missing. They put up posters around Halifax until 4 a.m. on Tuesday.

"It doesn't really make sense to any of us," said Chris Rhindress, a friend of Samson's since childhood.

'Not normal behaviour'

Halifax Regional Police said in a statement Sunday that Samson left his residence around 10:30 p.m. the day before, and was wearing a tan shirt, brown shorts and brown boat shoes.

On Tuesday, police said they are checking places he frequented and talking to people who know him.

"There's nothing to indicate that he's met with foul play," said Const. Dianne Woodworth. "But it's just not normal behaviour for him to not contact anybody like his family and friends."

Connor says it's been especially difficult for their mother.

"It's treating her like hell. I think it's a good thing for her that his friends and that are all there for her, and I'm there for her," he said. "I'm just hoping that he's safe and OK."

Samson is six feet five inches tall, around 210 pounds, with brown eyes and short hair.

Police are asking anyone with information to call 902-490-5020.
